Enrollment Philosophy

Horizons School enrollment philosophy, Horizons School enrollment steps

Helping students become achievers, leaders, and contributors to the community is what Horizons is all about. We do not expect students to be “perfect” prior to enrolling. Believing strongly that students learn from each other, students are chosen to benefit from and contribute to the school community.

Enrollment Steps

Potential students must fill out an application form. Application forms may be downloaded from the link on this page or provided by the office. There is a $50 application fee for domestic students. For international students, an I-20 form and acceptance letter are sent from the school before a visa interview in the student’s home country. A $165 U.S. fee is required for international applications due to the added processing and shipment. Additionally, an official (sealed) transcript from your previous school must be provided to Horizons and a withdrawal form if you are transferring from a school in the U.S. Transcripts may be mailed or faxed to the school’s address. (NOTE: Students from the People's Republic of China and the Cambridge Institute of International Eduction should apply through The Cambridge Institute of International Education http://www.thecambridgeinstitute.org.)

The campus is handicapped accessible.

Visitation by both parents and students is encouraged prior to applying for admission to Horizons. An appointment should be scheduled in advance. All visitors must check in with the office. Students spend an entire school day shadowing a current student through his or her classes to learn how Horizons operates and assess their interest in and compatibility with the school. For international students, a visit may not be possible; we encourage students and parents to communicate freely with the office to learn as much about the school as possible.

A contract between the parent/guardian and the Horizons School is signed as the complete financial understanding between the two parties. Tuition is due on enrollment. For the convenience of our families, Horizons School does allow families to pay in two semesters or 10 monthly installments. Failure to make timely payments interferes with our budgetary process and may cancel this arrangement.

School Trips

During the school year, various school trips are organized that require an additional fee in order to participate. We believe these outings add an additional dimension to the learning experience. Participation in these activities is not mandatory.

Financial AidHorizons School admissions requirements, Horizons School student applications

We believe in accessibility and diversity. Limited financial aid is available to select students we believe will contribute to the community and benefit from a Horizons education. Financial aid packages are not determined until students are accepted.

Special Needs

Horizons supports many learning styles and abilities within small mainstream classrooms. Our purpose is to offer each student a personal and academic challenge without being overwhelming. Teachers provide assistance and encouragement and have the skills and experience to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each student. Our program insures leadership opportunities, confidence building, and daily academic success in a holistic learning environment. In our 30-year history, we have worked with many special-needs students without state support. We are glad to be a part of the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship program. All our facilities are built to be handicapped accessible. Our staff does not include occupational, physical or speech therapists. Students must be independent in personal care. In our mainstream classrooms, Horizons is able to provide a pleasant, challenging experience for each learner.
