Horizons Elementary and Middle School focuses on starting each child's educational journey positively. What we hear from our parents again and again is that their students love to come to school each day. We create a low stress, encouraging atmosphere where children seek out learning opportunities. Our small class sizes allow teachers to provide the individual support young students crave, focusing on their needs and promoting their development.
Our Classrooms and Philosophy
Our young students are provided with a "village" of advocates. Classes in the lower school are composed of two grade levels. Kindergarten and first grade are taught together; second and third grades share a classroom; fourth and fifth study together as do the sixth and seventh grade. Eighth graders study in the upper school. Older students mentor the younger students and provide role models while the act of mentoring reinforces learning and encourages responsibility. Our students establish deeper relationships with each teacher in our two year system. Additionally, our high school students assist our teachers during school after care. This cooperative community of support nurtures and stimulates growth.
At Horizons we recognize that students are individuals and academics alone does not constitute an education. We take a holistic approach to learning and seek to enrich the whole child. Our classrooms are highly interactive and our students still enjoy recess, art and music. Students' emotional and social growth is enhanced by the diversity of our student body. We seek to develop self esteem, responsibility and self awareness with our balanced educational environment.
